About Us

Larson’s Fine Furniture was begun by Dick and his wife Carol in February 2001. Dick has been building furniture for approximately fifteen years. In the summer of 2000 he retired from the practice and teaching of general surgery, to pursue furniture making on a full time basis, from Banner Elk in western North Carolina.

His primary interests are split between the eighteenth century styles of the Chippendale and Queen Anne eras, and more contemporary designs, incorporating many of the features of the Arts and Crafts movement from the early twentieth century. All of these designs utilize considerable handwork, both in the joinery, as well as the shaping of structural elements.

Most pieces are finished with at least eight coats of Tung Oil Finish, handrubbed to emphasize the warm, natural beauty and grain of the select hardwoods individually chosen for each one. It is our intention that each item we make and sell will become an heirloom, to be enjoyed by the purchaser for generations.
